Dress Code

For our current formal classes, see the below dress code.

For our upcoming Spring/Summer 2024 JT Swing Team program, students are allowed to wear modest/casual attire. We recommend flat/low heel shoes that are easy to move in.

Dress dress code

Ankle length to the bottom of the knee one-piece dress. When follows spin the highest point should be at the bottom of the knee.
Please keep modesty in mind: No strapless dresses (one strap and spaghetti are strap okay) no backless dresses (cannot be below bottom of shoulder blades) or strapless. Bra straps or undergarments should not be showing.

Short white gloves and thin-soled dress shoes are required*. Nylons are optional but not required. Sweaters over dresses are not allowed unless approved ahead of time in a case-by-case scenario.

Suit Dress Code

Suit or sport coat (buttoned) with dress slacks, button up shirt, tie or bowtie, and flat leather or suede-soled dress shoes* (heel up to 2″ okay for Cuban heel). No white socks.

Our Junior Instructors wear white dinner jackets on performance nights, so we ask that students do not wear white dinner jackets.

General Dress Code rules for all

Clean and neat appearance required. Masks are optional.

We encourage our dance classes to be a space for respect and kindness, and a welcome environment for all individuals. Regardless of gender, we ask that our students stick to one dance roll for the entire dance season. We have zero tolerance for bullying.

Dress code will be strictly enforced for beginner students starting November 7th, and immediately for intermediate students
Which means that for our beginner students, you can use that first month to bring items in to see if they’re up to code, or have a buffer for shipping times. If beginner students have the proper apparel for opening night then great, but modest casual clothes are alright through October. Once dress code is enforced we will be giving students warnings and then sitting them down if there is a dress code violation. You can text Mrs. Taylor a picture of your teen’s apparel if there are any questions: 707-483-8855

*We will be selling gloves for $15/pair in the lobby as well as shoes for $50

Recommendations

Dresses: We encourage recycling! Some of the best dresses are at local thrift/consignment stores. We love Launch in Sebastopol and the app Poshmark. Hot Coture in Old Railroad square is offering 25% off all dresses for our students. Stop by and check out their gorgeous collection! Other great options include The Princess Boutique, Starlet, Ross, Macys, or even Amazon!

Suits: Hot Couture offers long-term suit rentals for the duration of our dance season. Let them know you’re with our group to see if there is anything in the back since they just offer this for our students. Suit up in the SR Plaza is very accommodating for our students and offer a good rate.

Shoes: Amazon has some great options if you look up Ballroom Dance Shoe. The lower the heel the better for maximum comfort. We will also be selling shoes in the lobby for $50 so students can try them on in person.

We have racks of donated garments that are free to our current students in the lobby.
